December 2, 2010 Holiday – Chanukah in Israel

Chanukah, Hanukkah or Festival of Lights is an important Jewish holiday celebrated for 8 days starting somewhere between late November and late December, on the 25th day of Kislev (Hebrew calendar) which commemorates the Jewish people’s struggle for religious freedom in the 2nd century BCE. Jewish families celebrate this holiday by lighting a special candelabrum for 9 candles, one for each day of celebration, saying prayers and having special holiday meal.
