January 10, 2011 Holiday – Coming of Age in Japan

Coming of Age (Seijin no hi) is a national holiday in Japan annually celebrated on the 2nd Monday of January. It is held in order to congratulate the newly adults who have reached the age 20 and got their rights to vote, smoke and drink legally. Festivities include coming of age ceremonies and after-parties amongst family and friends.
