January 7, 2011 Holiday – Christmas in Russia

Christmas in Russia and Ukraine is celebrated on January, 7 according to the Orthodox tradition and it’s considered to be one of the most favorite and joyous holiday of the year. Many people attend Christmas religious services which are held in churches throughout Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. When the first star appeares in the sky the families gather together at festive tables to have a special Lanten Christmas meal called Holy Supper. The meal begins with the Lord’s Prayer, led by the father of the family.
