February 8, 2011 Holiday – Needle Mass Day in Japan

Needle Mass Day also known as a Festival of Broken Needles or Hari-kuyo is annualy observed in Japan on Febuary 8th. On this day women in Japan gather their old and broken needles and take them to temples to offer a prayer of thanks for their hard work. Young girls pray to Awashima Myozin that their needlework, symbolic of love and marriage, will be good and will lead to a happy marriage.
