Hana matsuri is a flower festival in Japan that celebretes spring and Sakyamuni Buddha’s (Siddhartha Gautama) birthday who’s considered to be born on April, 8. On this day many traditional ceremonies take place in Buddhist temples. Altars are erected and decorated with flowers around a statue of baby Buddha. The festival is also celebrated with parades featuring images of the baby Buddha, the white elephant seen by his mother in her dream just before he was born and cherry blossoms carried by japanese kids dressed in traditional clothes.
