July 7, 2011 Holiday – Tanabata Star Festival in Japan

The star festival or Tanabata is celebrated on July, 7 in most of the regions in Japan and marks the day when 2 stars Altair and Vega which are separated from each other by the milky way meet once a year, according to a chinese legend.  Writing down secret wishes on colorful sheets of paper, is one of the most favourite customs of the festival. The piesces of paper are then hang on decorated with bright streamers bamboo trees, which may be set afloat or burned after the festival.
