September 16, 2011 Holiday – Independence Day in Mexico

Mexico got its independence in 1821, but the 16th of September 1810 when a priest from a small village initiated Mexico’s War of Independence from Spanish rule is considered to be the actual beginning of countries freedom. The holiday is widely observed all around the country, the celebrations start the day before and include big parades, firework displays and other social events featuring national costumes and traditional food.
