November 11, 2011 Holiday – Remembrance Day in Canada

Remembrance Day is observed in Canada and other Commonwealth countries like Australia, UK, New Zealand, Barbados, Bermuda, India, Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa to mark the end of the World War 1 in 1918 and pay tribute to all those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of their country and fellow countrymen. On November 11 a people attend church services, lay wreaths and flowers on war memorials and remember their perished family members and dear ones. The symbol of the Remembrance Day is a red poppy which symbolizes blood spilled during the war.
