December 12, 2011 Holiday – Our Lady of Guadalupe Day in Mexico

Our Lady of Guadalupe Day is an important religious festival in Mexico that commemorates the day when the Virgin Mary appeared to the Mexican peasant Juan Diego in 1531. On this day people erect home altars with candles and flowers, attend churches, praise the Virgin Mary, organize parades with traditional dancing and singing which usually culminate in spectacular firework displays.
