January 10, 2012 Holiday – Coming of Age Day in Japan

Coming of Age is a national holiday widely observed all around Japan on the 2nd Monday of January each year. The festival is dedicated to young people who turned 20 and officially became adults gaining some rights like voting, smoking and drinking alcohol. On this day the newly adults wear traditional clothes, take part in various ceremonies and celebrate with family and friends.
