January 13, 2012 Holiday – Old New Year in Russia

On January, 13 Russia and some other Slavic Orthodox countries celebrate the Old New Year. The holiday is called the Old New Year as it’s observed according to the old Julian calendar that preceded Gregorian calendar. Although the holiday is not formal, it’s widely celebrated among Russians in grand style like New Year’s Eve.
